No one is thinking about you

In our lives, we feel that everybody is watching us and talking about us behind our backs all the time. It happens to some extent and that is it. This is a normal practice. Everybody does this and so we need to accept it anyway. Many a time, people overthink about it and cut themselves off from everyone. Even though people talk, it is not like they have been talking and thinking about you all the time. We need to keep in mind that everyone has something to do. People gossip a bit and forget it. We have to accept it because it is normal human behavior. Even if, you are being taught to not indulge in gossip, everyone does it knowingly and unknowingly. When you do it, others will also do it. It is a free world. On the other hand, there is a positive side to it. Because of fear of such talks, people think twice before doing something. So, it compels a person to make a rational decision in any situation thinking about others. Generally, such gossip dies down after a few days because people move on to the next big thing! Suddenly, your news becomes stale. Ignoring gossip does help. It is not in your control. So, why do you need to worry?

In our society, we are told not to be money minded. If someone is money savvy, it is scandalized and mocked.  The good old days are gone when people used to stay in the village farming. They did not have to buy many things from outside world because they produced most of their requirement. With changing time, we have upgraded our lifestyle with all kinds of modern amenities. Those who got educated well & shifted to other mode of employment adjusted their incomes and they embraced the new things. But, the income has not gone up drastically in villages & other backward sections of society. So, there is an income gap that has been developing over the years. It will further widen in coming years because inflation will eat up our saving. Inflation in education and healthcare is very high. Once a kid goes to school, it becomes a costly affair. Indian government has made education & primary health care free up to a certain limit and beyond that it becomes an uphill journey for the poorer sections.

In earlier years, I did not notice the things from financial point of view for the things happening in our society. Most of the time, I see fights, infidelity and suicides are happening due to financial stress. People do all kinds of shady jobs because of financial stress. Therefore, it is not bad to be money minded after all. At that end of the day, we need to pay our bills. So, demonizing money is no good. Money is detrimental in our lives. With such a view towards money, we discourage our next generation to move ahead. We should understand its value and use it for better cause.

About ten years back, it was very strange that somebody wanted to work even after retirement. Every retiree just wanted to stop working and enjoy life. It took all by surprise that an acquaintance wanted to continue after retirement as a contractual employee for a smaller remuneration. He did it for many years.  When we checked on him, he did not have any bad habits or overspending nature but he could not bear the expenses because of the family burden of six people which included two sons and their spouses. For many, it may be queer but it is quite normal in tier-two cities and villages in India where the head of the family has to take responsibility for financial matters for a long period. At that time, his sons were struggling because they had no formal jobs. In other words, they followed their passion in life and did some odd jobs. Therefore, money was not enough.  

In today’s time, working even after retirement has become a hard reality and very common. Many are not going to accept it but it is true. If no proper planning is there, one has to continue to do work even after retirement. Many will say that they are doing it to kill time. Then, they should not charge. Many people get busy by working in NGOs without charging anything. Therefore, there must be some financial problem. We have the habit of showing pretty faces even in dire situations.  In principle, people do not like to work. After sixty, only a few have passion after a long period of grinding. People extend retirement age out of compulsion.  Nowadays, people have diminishing savings and increasing expenditures. Probably, every one of us has to work even after retirement not for a hobby but to survive!

 Students need to understand this and plan their careers. Once the career is settled, everything falls in line.

In my life, I have come to feel that people may not like you all the time even your closer ones. Many a time, a small talk is enough to spill the beans. Somebody may be jealous in everything or anything about you. Liking is always driven by interests, expectation and emotion and sometimes all together. But, as an individual it is not easy to satisfy everyone’s demand. We are humans and so we have limitation. One should not keep unrealistic expectation from anybody because he or she is an individual with their own view and perception regarding the things and the way the things to be done. In Buddhism, it is said that expectation is the root cause of all miseries. So, having an expectation from someone will be a fruitless affair. Even if you are having good intentions, people generally do not conform as per your expectation. People listen and ignore it. That is OK. One needs to respect it and move on. One has to continue like it. Nobody is indebted to you to bow before you.

Now, how will one spot that somebody is having an ill intention? Well, there are many signs which I have observed in people such as the tone & approach will change once you are not in good books. There will be frequent curt marks to vent out their irritation. Many body language experts say that left human eye always gives away someone’s irritation during a conversation. These are some signs to look out for.  If we know something like that is brewing in a conversation, we do not need to be rude and look for a gradual withdrawal. There is a saying “time heals everything”. Once you enter into to conflict, there is no turning back, and it brings a lot of unwanted stress. It becomes very difficult to get back to talking terms in future because days do not go as always. You may need them in future.

IQ is everything

In last 14 years of service in educational sector, I have noticed that it all boils down to IQ level of a student. Monetary power can get one student to a best private institute but it does not mean that the best facilities can uplift him or her over those years. It is my observation that one succeeds accordingly as per the IQ level. It is the responsibility of the individual to keep working on IQ level. After some time, you will be considered smart amongst others. Every one of us has a particular domain in our educational field. We need to be at least above average to be able to garner some respect from the fellow folks. If we cannot do so, what is the point of being a human? Apart from our domain, we need to keep ourselves abreast with the things happening around us for situational awareness because these things are going to impact us sooner or later in our life. Many people do not feel like to know the general knowledge things but it does help you a lot in many situations. It helps you to start a conversation and you will be considered someone who has knowledge. Nobody likes to talk to a dumb person. He will be always laughed at even if he may have millions of dollar in his bank account. It is important to know that everybody wants some respect at some point of life.  

Coming to students, one has to keep on working on IQ level. How will you know that you are lacking in it? If you are not able to take part in a discussion that really impacts you and your future then you definitely need to work on it. If you are unable to crack any competitive environment then also you have to do some soul searching.  

By learning if you keep tabs on trends, you will not end up being a fool. Now let us analyze the present situation of AI & self driving cars which are coming in a big way to our lives. The world is moving towards adopting these technologies so it will definitely impact us in future. Companies will need less people because AI and automated software will surely eat away a lot of the jobs which human used to do. So, we have to reorient our education to fit ourselves in the future. Sooner or later self driving cars will take driving jobs and people who are skilled in driving have to look in different directions because they will work 24 hours at a less pay which will not be sustainable to humans. Similarly, government policies also do affect us. Suppose, you are having a good industrial policy for your country, you will have a better future. Similarly, in every respect, you can expand your knowledge.

Now question is "how can we increase our IQ level?" Learn about the things impacting you and try to think critically about those issues. Gradually, you will develop knowledge. One should keep in mind that it is gradual process and let it develop that away otherwise you will get bored. Soak philosophies, ideas and arguments in bits and pieces, you will be a wise person.
