Why do you want to join the company? ( T & P Series on Wednesdays: 18)

This is a personal question. No specialist on the planet can advise you on this matter. You must provide your unique response. However, an expert may be able to teach you the strategy to answer this question. I gave this question a lot of thought and did a lot of research online.

For freshers, the method is known as the Mission Culture Reputation (MCR) technique. Well, you won't find it in any textbook because I coined it myself for your convenience. The three points may be thought of as the active elements that should go into the answer as it is being framed.

Every business has a mission or a motto. Take, for example, NOKIA, which has the slogan "connecting people." Similarly, you may learn about the target company's goal or slogan by visiting their website. To truly understand their mission/motto, you must read it several times. You must incorporate some aspect of the mission/moto in your response or provide a clue.

Every company has its own work culture; some are loosely managed and profit-driven, while others have a hyperactive workplace. New start-ups are more concerned with sustainable product creation and encouraging environmentally friendly behaviors among employees such as cycling, using an electric vehicle, carpooling, and so on.

Aside from that, businesses are moving toward teamwork in all areas. So a ragtag team is recruited and tasked with carrying out a project in the military style. This approach was recently taken from the Japanese, who have made significant success while working in this manner. So your goal is to learn about their work culture and include it in your response.

If your target company is more interested in sustainable development, you should mention it to gain some points. If your firm believes in providing great customer service, you must discover a story or construct a story around that belief. Take Jio as an example, which provides customer care in several languages for every type of inquiry. On a personal note, I enjoy it since you can speak in your language. This is a significant benefit for non-Hindi or English speakers.

Every company has its market reputation. Consider Maruti Suzuki as an example. Even though Maruti is far behind in terms of appearance, the company continues to top the sales table month after month because consumers choose it for mileage and outstanding service. If you purchase a fancy car in India, you have to be concerned about its service, but that is not the case with Maruti. It boasts a nationwide network of thousands of dealers and third-party service facilities. Hyundai, on the other hand, is recognized for its attractive design and accessories.  So, you must determine their market reputation and mention the points in your response.

Let us suppose you are applying for the position of Graduate Engineer Trainee (Design) at Tata Motors.

Step1: Read the tag line & mission

·          Tata’s tag line is ‘ connecting aspirations’. It means that it facilitates meeting the hopes and ambitions of people.

·         Their design section says “Our strong focus on manufacturing excellence ensures that our facilities carry out every step in the manufacturing process backed by leading-edge R&D and meeting the highest standards of quality.”[ https://www.tatamotors.com/about-us/].

Step2: Identify their culture

From the statements below, I can gather that they have international collaboration for R&D which includes design also. So, there is an immense potentiality of learning new things for a fresher.

·         Our manufacturing facilities are certified for world-class manufacturing and quality standards. We have state-of-the-art technology backed by passionate engineering, quality talent, and focus on automation and technology.”[ https://www.tatamotors.com/about-us/]

Tata Motors vehicles offer global styling, enhanced driving comfort, and fuel efficiency. Our design units in Coventry (UK), Turin (Italy), and Pune (India) ensure our vehicles are both trendy and trustworthy.

Our R&D centers focus on the look and feel of our vehicles while investing in safety, efficiency, and fuel economy.”[ https://www.tatamotors.com/about-us/]

Step 3: Identify Reputation

·         They are known for their durable vehicles both in commercial and non-commercial sectors.

Your answer could be like this:

I'd want to work as a graduate trainee for Tata Motors since this is the firm that is working hard to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of millions of Indians to own a vehicle. Tata Motors is well known for its commercial vehicles, but it has gone a long way in the noncommercial sector by producing some of the world's safest automobiles, such as the Altroz and Nexon.

As a Mechanical Engineer, I've learned a variety of software tools, such as Ansys and COMSOL, that I can put to good use while working here. Furthermore, Tata Motors has some of the greatest R&D facilities in partnership with numerous businesses from Italy, the United Kingdom, and other countries. This will be extremely beneficial to your growth as a design engineer in five years.

Furthermore, I've discovered that Tata Motors is well-known in the industry for producing long-lasting vehicles or automobiles. We have been traveling by TATA buses since we were children, and my uncle recently purchased a Tata Tiago, which is an incredibly excellent automobile with all the comforts at a very reasonable price. To be honest, Tata has enormous development potential, which I want to be a part of.
