Transactional us

We see ideal lives in films. We make a habit of it as if it were our life. Things are different. It is not what it seems. Sometimes we get overwhelmed with it. But, it is what it is?

We always think that it is happening to me and not to others. Frankly speaking, it is life. What we face daily is reality. We have to work and save for the future, and that is life. On the other hand, we imagine a lavish and affluent life with nothing to do. Even if it is true, you will long for work because happiness drifts away very soon. You get bored, and your mind needs to get engaged in something.  One needs a getaway anyway.

So far, our world has become transactional: everything is give and take. You can continue with it till you are strong physically and financially. Things change, and you need help from others. Your transactional behaviour may have already left a bad taste in the minds of others. People just tend to stay away from you for who you are.

One needs to understand that this is a world which becomes much happier and enjoyable once you associate with people without any preconceived ideas.  Once you have it, you lose it. You don’t associate and socialise, and become cut off from society.

People will pump you up

Whenever you are low, people will cheer you up because you are already upset. No-one wants to do something silly which is common these days. People just want you to be there. It is what everyone expects.

Now a day, human lives are very precious because of single child in families. Somehow, family members and relatives do not criticize as they used to do in the past. Criticism in small doses makes one ready for future in the past. This taught people to digest rejection and handle criticism. In a way, people took those incidences as examples and keeps on moving. Since, this has more or less vanished in present times; people have developed lower tolerances to handle rejection and criticism. People get depressed easily and find difficult to move one. Many students face serious issues and cut oneself away from society. Hurdles are part and parcel of life.

As people have gone feedback averse, we mostly say good things only. You hear what you want to hear. These type words keep on massaging your ego. Frankly speaking, your mark sheet tells you everything. No one will tell you that. Deep down, you also know it is the truth.  If you are good at something, you will excel anyway. Since, no one wants to tell the truth, people keep on going that way. When you realize it, it is too late.

Want all but not all!!!

In our wildest dream, we think we can be anyone; a superhero, a handsome hero, a business man with lots of money or an intelligent man with super brain like a computer. Alas, this does not happen in real life. You just become what you choose.  You cannot be anybody but you can be somebody if you decide to be.

Yet, people try to have it all and need it all and get into trouble due to all of these. There is no end to greed. Greed is the end after all. In search of this greatness, people resort to all kinds of duplicity and fakery that it becomes so obvious to be. At some point, one should control himself or herself and do not push the system simply for own good. One cannot have all. If you are having something, you should definitely wait for your turn which you do in wedding buffets; you wait fresh people to take and then go.

If you wish to go forcibly, people will just chew for your indecency. People should have etiquette. This is what differentiate human from animals.

Right Path

When you are young, you often have a bold spirit but little experience. You are eager to act and believe your ideas are original. In reality, most paths have already been explored and documented. What seems like innovation may simply be unfamiliar because of a lack of research.
Your assumption of invincibility in intelligence and knowledge is misguided. Countless people before you have erred by ignoring lessons from history. Thus, it is crucial to study the past and research thoroughly. While confidence is valuable, overconfidence leads to failure—a pattern repeatedly observed. If you ignore this, you risk the same outcome.
In our culture, we are encouraged to follow the strongman, but he may also be full of follies. Indian methodologies teach us this great essence. Even if you are an incarnation of a god among mortals, you are prone to follies. Follies take you to your downfall ultimately.  We have been told this so many times, yet we are slaves to our vices.
The one way to get rid of such a situation is to follow standard procedure in every situation, even if you are tempted or disoriented by your surroundings. At this time, test  your character. You can be a simple man or differentiate yourself from thousand others by simply following standard operating procedure.
In organizations, people just fall prey to vices and do not feel following procedure. Things go perfectly till there is no problem. Whenever there is a problem, there would be scrutiny. Things come out at the end of the day. Nobody can hide something forever. Eventually, things come out anyway. While in organization, you will get a powerful position, you will be tempted to do things according to your whims and fancies, but your tenure also comes to an end. Nothing is permanent forever.  Only sticking to the right path &  right procedure will ensure your sanctity.

Your trade secrets

Many businesses have trade secrets that they guard closely. Similarly, we have our own secret techniques at work, which are personal and unique to us.

Then, many people have an eternal itch to be a loudmouth and brag about their techniques. Then, people learn those, and you become an obsolete commodity. Those techniques are yours and should be guarded ferociously. When you talk about something even to your closest friend, words spread. Most of the time, your closest friend becomes the nastiest enemy. Whatever you have earned through your hard work should not be thrown away lightly. Once its utility is exhausted, it can be given away.
Now, in workplaces, you may need to teach people. While teaching something, you demonstrate the textbook process. If somebody is smart enough, he finds out his own technique. That will be his journey. Often, people forget your generosity and come back to you as a predator instead.  Recently, I read news about a person working in an organization. He had developed some codes to complete his tasks within a few minutes. The boss, who happened to be on good terms with him, got him to talk about the whole scheme. That sweet talk and over-trust in others got his job ended in that organization. The boss learnt the process and replaced him. The code was the outcome of his knowledge accrued over the years of hard work. People actually pay for the knowledge.
I still remember one scene from a film where a factory owner was asking a technician to fix a machine.  The technician fixed the machine with a blow of a hammer and asked him to pay Rs 500. In those days, it used to be a very high amount.  The factory owner declined to pay. The technician persisted. The owner retorted that you just hammered once. The technician replied that it was the price for knowing where to be hit.

Goodbye forever

Have you attended someone’s funeral? You might have definitely. As you grow older, you frequently attend funerals. It is an experience in its own way. The very man, who used to walk & talk once, lies as a rock; unmoved and unbothered.

Those closest to them find it difficult to detach themselves. They cry and eventually take solace, leaving it to the divine. This personal grief often blends with the community’s way of honoring the departed.

Cremation in rural parts of India is simply different. Relatives take the body to a burial ground allocated by each family for such purposes. People gather wood and physically make the funeral pyre. They stake the woods and bamboo layer by layer and put the body in it. Son lights up the funeral pyre or sometimes the daughter in the absence of a male heir.   The blazing fire turns the body into ashes in a few hours. The physical existence of the person is eliminated for good.

All our lives, we humans incessantly keep on collecting and saving things, and in the end, we can take nothing with us. Only a few good deeds remain in the minds of people. Rest mingles with smoke rising from the fire pyre. It is applicable to everyone in every aspect of life. Do good and move on.  You cannot carry it to your afterlife.
