Choosing a guide for your PhD:05

Many a time, students are familiar with the people at the teaching positions. If you have done masters from the same institute, it will be easy to contact a guide. Problem arises when you are applying someplace which is new to you. In that case, you are totally in new waters. Now, there are techniques to develop relationships and rapport. In such case, students are advisable to develop familiarity through conferences and workshops or other social media medium such as LinkedIn. You have to showcase your talent and intent for research and development. Your participation in such brain stimulating sessions will definitely bring the attention. If you are unable to do anything as such, you have to prepare hard for the interview round. Generally, interview panel asks you that whom you want to approach as guide. If you have already reached the concerned person, your interview round becomes a bit comfy. Otherwise, you have to be satisfied with what you get.

Many a time, there is conflict between teacher and students during PhD. Students drop out of the program due to many issues. In my life, I have seen so many cases. Therefore, one should definitely talk with former students for advice. This may prevent many mishaps before happening. (Read more such articles in PhD guidebook)
