Practicing gratefulness

In my life, I have come across some people who complain each and everything on daily basis. Some people use complaining as tactic to divert attention like the topper always keeps on telling how he or she is under prepared for the test. But, many people are actually become hopeless in present condition and keeps on complaining. Such people often go negative and slowly other people also start keeping distance for his or her negative views. It has been a problem for many people. They become so hopeless that they stop trying.  Most of the time, they blame others for their misfortune or go astray. It is not true. Others are not at all worried about you and your welfare and let alone plotting invisible conspiracies.

In order to come out from such situation, one has to practice gratefulness. In Christianity, before having a meal, one prays and thanks god for the food on the plate. This is one form of practicing gratefulness. In most of the religions, the great teachings are ingrained to minds of devotees as a ritual so that it becomes a normal day to day practice. Now, we can adopt anything which is the best for us from anywhere. Practicing gratefulness is such a novel practice which can be included in our day to day life for peace of mind. Every day, one can definitely find at least five reasons to be grateful such as

  1.       I am grateful for my good health
  2. I am grateful that I woke up early in the morning and did my morning exercise.
  3. I am grateful that I have a phenomenal day.
  4. I am grateful that I have good company in my life.
  5. I am grateful that I am limited my spending as per budget for today.

Similarly, you can find numerous such reasons. Personally, I have a feeling that it keeps you grounded and appreciate life in a better manner. You feel that you are mentally and physically able and there is always a tomorrow to lead a good life.  It helps release a lot pressure from your head. If you are in despair, one needs to count on the blessings bestowed by the almighty and keep on going. So, one need not be very harsh to himself or herself. Life is all about moving on.

Do what is in your control

The real is full of chaos. We always try to control the chaos. The sense of controlling gives us happiness. If something does not occur according to our wishes, we get disheartened. We need to embrace this chaos in our lives.

Let’s say, you are preparing for a job test. You are worried about the test questions. In some people, this worrying goes to extreme and they do all kinds of tantrums. I have seen people doing all kinds of drama for not taking the test. One has no control over the questions that may come but he has control over his actions. One can prepare for the test every possible way to feel confident. For any task, you do whatever is in your power and leave the rest to God. Then, you face it like a brave man. This approach will certainly harden you up and help control the nerve during such instances. One can apply this principle everywhere.

Moreover, we worry too much thinking that what others would say. Others have little time to spare in real life. People generally do not keep thinking about someone all the time because they have a life and have their own responsibilities. If somebody is teasing you, he is doing it either out of jealousy or just gas lighting you.  In that case, you need to ignore him and not let those voices go into your head. Many a time, people give good advices, if that is applicable take it.

Knowledge trumps

One day, I was riding on my bike at Dibrugarh town. Suddenly, a thought came to my mind that how the businesses were doing on a busy day in Dibrugarh. I kept on checking out shops and other small business entities. I could see either very less customers or no customers at all. There are lines of similar shops selling more or less selling similar things.  When, I came to Dibrugarh in 2011 to join service, there were a few numbers of shops. The shops number has grown but customers decline. E commerce is also greatly impacting them. Then, I heard that one doctor started his clinic in a busy area and could get only one patient in 6 months. Then, there is a spurt of MBBS students opting for APSC exams in large numbers.   It was not at all common. People are becoming doctors because their parents want them to be and there is no enthusiasm to learn more after the degree. So, business has become a difficult path unlike social media hype of many people doing well in business. The number may be one in thousand !! Some people excel and the most of the people fail. Especially, Assamese society is very service based and handful people have done it big in business. We have no role model. It will take time to learn the tricks of the trade. Therefore, I have understood that common business which everyone is doing will not click and will not fetch good money to live a comfortable life because, I can see common business owners are just living hand to mouth. Furthermore, our society is very price sensitive and there are thousands others to sell the same thing always five rupees less than you!!

USA is number one in the world because it has large businesses earning money for the country but the money is not earned through “jugaad”. The new business ideas are backed by knowledge. The knowledge comes from research and development. The current market disruptor Open AI in AI field is born out of knowledge not by some kind of cheap trick. Similarly, we too have to be knowledge based economy. Businesses should be backed by new research. Then only, one can earn big money and provide jobs. We need to remember “Goddess Laxmi follows the Goddess Swarasati*.”

Special note: As per Indian mythology and belief, Goddes Laxmi is Goddess of wealth and Goddes Swarasati: Goddess of knowledge.
