Many people like to share their personal lives with others. It is therapeutic to some people. Many people are not mentally strong, and they always need a support system. On the other hand, some could be mentally so strong that you hardly get any information out of them. Everyone is different.

Now, the problem with sharing something is that people judge after all. Generally, people are all hostile. They hear you because your interests align. Once there is a change of course, your secrets are out in the open for society's consumption.  It worsens the situation rather than helping. Then, many people try to manipulate and take advantage of the new evolving situation. Even if somebody is your best friend, they may turn hostile. Many personal things and secrets are spread like anything. People do it just to discredit you. Many weak people get depressed and do horrible things.

In job life also, one should not go on sharing like an orb to anybody; one should keep in mind that today’s friend is tomorrow’s potential competitor or enemy. People used to have good friends 30 years ago. Now, everybody is just a colleague.   They share the workplace with you only. Once they get points, they will use them if you are their competitor. Till then, you will remain in flavor.

In your career, you are solely responsible for your growth. You can ask others for directions, but they will not be able to help you all the time. No one holds you to your success. People have these unrealistic expectations of others. Nobody has so much time. They are also struggling in their lives.     

Now, you have to put more effort into your career to go ahead. Nobody will tell you to do so. Frankly speaking, others will be rather pleased with your laid-back attitude because you are just a non-competitor. In societies, you will see that people who are failing are liked by many. On the other hand, those who achieve become a figure of jealousy. If you are liked by everybody in your circle, you are just a non-threat.

But you have to put effort into your scheme of work very soon. Otherwise, time & tide wait for no one. Rather, time is very ruthless and punishes you for non-effort. Even in your good times, you have to keep advancing by incorporating new things into your skill list. It will keep your working habits alive; otherwise, humans seek comfort and indulge in it, forgetting everything. But these pleasures will also pass, and you will come across new realities. Everything is fleeting. You cannot hold the status quo for your whole life.

This philosophy is followed in many cultures. People like to help a weak person. In films, an underdog always gets support. So, people think that it is their moral duty to help and uplift the weak & needy.

Once you attain some strength or fame, the attitude changes. They start to see you as a competitor. The help and soft corner vanish. It is a universal phenomenon. Therefore, it is very important to hide one's strength and portray oneself as the underdog to keep the fire burning for a long time. Many business communities of India follow it by heart, and they have progressed a lot. Once, I saw a businessman in a CA office. He seemed to be an underpaid employee of some private organisation. When he started talking about his balance sheet, my head started spinning.

Many a time, they project such a way to ward off attention from the unwanted people who always tend to milk them in various innovative ways. Besides, it helps them to maintain a smoke screen that they are barely making it through that business. Otherwise, hundreds of people come rushing to do the same business once they see someone exceptionally successful. So, they keep themselves out of the prying eyes, and there is no competition at all.

Coming back to job life as a new employee, one should keep on working quietly without much hype. If people see your success, they start putting hurdles in the way. So, why do you need to bring attention to yourself? When the time comes, one should come out as Chinese bamboo, which is unstoppable.

Our personalities are shaped by our surroundings and the experiences we have had so far. Some people are very annoying and difficult to work with. People can be irritating in many ways; some talk behind backs, some are habitual naysayers, some cannot keep a word, some are super selfish, and some are not reliable at all. These are masks to ward off an extra load. Though one can enjoy it in the short term, it has negative effects in the long term. People become annoyed because of such pushback.

Soon, people start disassociating from such persons. Over the period, the impression of the person is portrayed such that he will be good for nothing. When you need good projects for career advancement, you will find difficulty because people trust you no more. It has been broken by you over the years.

You become stagnant. Then, word travels faster than you think, and there is no place to switch, either.  Therefore, one has to keep working slowly and steadily. Everyone sees through your deception.
