Being Articulate for Job Interviews

People always say that one needs to be articulated in interviews. How can you be articulate for an interview? Have you ever ponder over it? Well we are going to be exploring this significant point today. For interviews, this is really critical. Being articulate means that one can communicate or express his thoughts effectively to interviewers. It is accurate communication in plain terms. To be an articulated person, some aspects need to be followed.

 (1) Knowledge:  You have to know the subject matter. Moreover, your experience helps you be an articulate person.

(2) Vocabulary: Many think that we need to know exotic words to communicate. But, it is not true. Usage of difficult words during conversation causes hindrance rather than help. Therefore, one needs to be using simple descriptive words that go well with the audience or listener.  But, you should increase your vocabulary for your usage.

 (3) Practice: There is a saying in English “ practice makes a man perfect”. Before appearing for interviews, we need to practice our introducing technique and general HR questions over and over again. These include questions like “ Tell me about yourself”, “ What are your strengths and weaknesses?”, “ Why do you want to work here?” etc. Many experts say that taking acting classes helps one to be more expressive and overcome fear. So, one should try one or two acting classes. One may pick one or two points from there.

(4) Pause while speaking: While communicating, we use filler words sometimes to link up sentences. These are ‘ Ummm’, ‘like’, ‘means’ etc. Some people use it excessively. Excessive filler words spoil your communication. It makes it dull. Rather than using filler words, one can use pause strategically. Sometimes, remaining silent does the job.

(5) Tones & accentuation: While speaking, we need to concentrate on our tone. The tone is statement specific. When you change the tone, it may change the meaning of the sentence. Having a proper tone is a must. There are many videos on Youtube that talk about tone. One needs to be master this technique. Apart from that, we need to focus on accentuation too. Accentuation is the practice of making some syllables in a word more distinct by saying loudly or putting more emphasis. Video lessons can be useful in this regard.

(6) Listen to yourself: You may have the notion that you speak very eloquently. But, have you ever thought of listening to your voice in the recording. Try this sometime. You can easily assess whether your talk is lively or boring. You can also ask your best friends to help you and allow them to give an honest review of how they feel.

(7) Portray confidence: During the interview, you need to look, confidant. You must show the interviewer that you have authority on the subject. One of the best ways to show yourself, confidant, is to project your voice. Your voice should be such that someone sitting ten feet away can easily hear you and make out what you are saying.

(8) Variation in sentences: Sometimes, we notice that some speakers use long sentences during communication which is not at all easy to follow. Then, the speaker loses the audience. Therefore, after a long sentence, one needs to use a short sentence while speaking. This gives the listener some time to understand which is very much essential. Moreover, while speaking jovial things, one should speed up the volume and for sad & serious things, one needs to be slow down a bit.
