For a few dollars more !!!! (Job Series):07

This is not about the famous movie called “A Few Dollars More” by Clint Eastwood. It is about corruption in organizations. People become greedy in organizations and start taking money from vendors and service providers. People try to justify it for many reasons. Whatever it may be, it is just corruption. Undoubtedly, it dents the image of the doer. At the same time, it demoralizes others. In the end, the quality of work gets hampered. Further, it also instigates juniors to do the same.

When somebody does such things, people eventually come to know. One can hardly stop such news from spreading. In this time of social media, words spread like wildfire. So, one is risking his job and image for a few dollars. Moreover, the vendors or service providers with whom the person has done the deal will spread the news. They will approach others with the same propositions citing the name and rate of getting things done. You can go to any nearby hotel or tea shop where all the flora and fauna could be found and listen to what they are saying.You will surely overhear a few such things. Then, your subordinates or colleagues are not fools even though you tend to think of them. They see through your dealings and words get out very easily. Only the fool is you who is thinking you are fooling everybody. People used to be very simple back in days. But, now a day, everyone is intelligent enough to spot slightest misplacement of the things.

At the end, words go higher to the top. Sometimes, there is no direct proof but there will be always some traces of wrongdoing. In the near future, the person will be under investigation or shunted to less important roles. With so many facilities and surveillance, one can be easily pinned down if the organization has the will. In my life, I have heard so many such stories of people getting fired, demoted or pay deducted. In a government-run organization, these go into your personal files  and cause difficulty in promotion. No body likes an embezzler in the organization.  

Greed kills your potential to go higher up. So, many people have just ruined their careers for a small amount of money. There are other avenues to increase your wealth legally. Besides, being free from vices keeps you in peace. At the end of the day, everyone will earn something to live happily ever after. Greed to earn a few dollars may fetch you all the undesirable complexities in life.

Persuasion is a skill. A new employee has to learn to persuade people to get work done. As per my experience, persuasion depends on a few factors such as your credibility and likability. If you have dubious credibility, people will try to cut corners regarding anything and everything. No matter, how hard you try, you will hit a brick wall. Then, the other factor is likability. If they like you, they tend to associate with you. So, persuading other people to get on board and carry out an activity should not be difficult.

All these factors are linked to your image and behaviour since the time of joining. People observe and develop a notion about you from the work you have carried out so far. If people have no good experience with you regarding any of the above, they will refrain from participating wholeheartedly even if it is mandated to do so. In that scenario, you will have a hard time and your result will not be great. It becomes a vicious circle. Even if, one wants to start afresh, he will be stuck for good.

Well, all these are regarding getting people associated with you at the outset. Then you have an uphill task you have to go in a certain direction. For that matter, you have to communicate convincingly with clear outcomes in mind. While getting people in your favour, you should talk from the point of view of their benefits. When people see advantages in associating with you regarding something, they will work on a priority basis. Otherwise, people will have some doubts about your plans even though they will have trust. Taking all along and leaving no one behind in sticky situations are some other aspects which need to be considered in due course of time.
