Concept of Acceptance for Newly Admitted College Students

It is the admission season for undergraduate colleges. Students are attending counselling sessions in various institutes for admission as per ranks in entrance exams or percentage of marks in 12th. Some have scored very high marks and they are confidant of getting a seat in any of a premier institute. Some are still figuring out.

At the end, everyone will get a seat as per their merit. Many students become increasingly disheartened for not getting admission in their desired college. They keep on overthinking as if it is the end and carry their anger & regret throughout their lives. This is the story of many of my colleagues. Those things are still fresh in their minds even after fifteen years.

In many cases, students go to such extent that they cannot cope with the present situation. They reject present and dive deep into depression. Marcus Aurelius, a stoic philosopher and an emperor of Rome who reigned between 121-161 AD had written his reflections in the book “Mediations” for such situations. We humans experience external distress all the time due to situations which are not in our control. We react to such situation emotionally and feel pain but it is in our power to cancel the thought and accept the reality. By accepting the reality, we make peace with it.

Coming to students, in many situations, one many not get a desired college due to many reasons such as cut off may go up drastically that year due to large number of students appearing for entrance exams. It is not end of the world. You have to accept the reality and think objectively for the next move. Either you can start preparing afresh or get admitted to a college in the which you have got chance. You have to accept that the college you are getting into is your reality and accept it as it is. One can always start over and focus on the things at hand. Thinking about past will only give you regrets.

Many a time, it is not bad as it seems. After all, one’s mindset determines the final outcome. If you have zeal to move up, you will go up. Later in life, you will find that it was just a small hurdle and you have done well.

AI tools for Job Interview Preparation

Chat GPT, Google Bard, Perplexity : these are all AI tool. These can be used as search tool or writing tool. It is just phenomenal to use them. It saves your time and above all, it makes you wiser. While preparing for written exam or interview, we just feel that somebody should be with us to help us prepare. Now, you can use the AI tools.

Many a time, we spend a lot of time while searching a specific answer for a specific given condition for a problem. Google search directs you to various blogs or platforms which has closest resemblance. It does not give you the exact answer. On the other hand, the AI tool works as the coach who understands the problem and knows what to do. It saves a lot of time. While preparing notes on any topic, I often have many queries.

Previously, I did not have privilege. Sometimes, I find my answer in some blogs and many a time, I never find anything. I tend to guess probable answer. Then, it would take more time to finally reach at a correct answer. However, this problem is now sorted by the AI tools.

In case of technical interview, one can use the AI tools. You ask a question related to the topic or you can ask for probable technical questions for the topic. Then, you can ask follow up questions for better understanding. In olden times, you needed a personal coach for that. Now, you have the power in your fingertips.

My suggestion regarding job interview preparation is to ask the probable questions with answers. Then, practice them using Feyman’s technique where you study the answers related to the questions and try to explain in your own words before someone or you can record your response in mobile. When, you do that you can remember it for a long time because explaining requires deep knowledge. Once you do it , it stays in your mind. If you are preparing for written test you can ask for MCQs.

Setting up the aims and objectives and finalizing them:09

(Source:pexels.com)

While starting your PhD, you have to set your aims and objectives. The aims and objectives are carefully chosen after the research problem is fixed. Now, many people will just write the objectives in haste without thinking much but it is not advisable. I request you to plan your whole project in advance including probable experiments & simulations. A well planned ‘Material & Methods’ which will be chapter 3 of your project thesis in future will help you in this regard.

After your registration of project, you won’t be able to change the title and objectives. So, one must be careful. If you cannot do it in your organization or any laboratory, you should not set an objective that requires those facilities. Many a time people do not realize it and go haywire for non-availability of facility. When you submit your thesis, the reviewers will minutely observe whether the thesis is fulfilling the stated objectives or not. The reviewers will tell you to complete the unfinished in their review or remark incomplete. This becomes very tricky situation.

Generally, you get limited chances for review and beyond that a thesis may be rejected. You have to write it again and do all the procedure once again. In the process, you will lose one complete year.
