In India, inflation in the education sector is very high . In simple terms, you have to spend more on education each passing year. As per an article titled “Education inflation is twice the inflation ‘rate – Tips to invest for children’s education published in the Indian Express on August 18, 2023, the education sector is facing an inflation of 10 to 12%. In real terms, I think it is much higher than reported in our region.
Well, no one can stop this inflation as the running costs of schools and colleges have been increasing steeply. Now, education has become costly. You are getting the same basic education at a higher cost. On the other hand, the students are not able to get jobs even after spending so much. Now, we have to think in terms of the “return on investment” point of view. Many things which students take out of passion are of no use in income generation in the practical field. The market wants different things. If the market wants rice, we should be able to provide rice. Otherwise, if you keep pushing mustard, there will be no takers. The world is brutal and always be like this. Therefore, we have to reorient ourselves. We have to understand that what we would like to do necessarily may not pay.
Keeping that in mind, we have to choose courses. Moreover, schools and colleges will give you the basic knowledge based on which you will move up further. Therefore, you have to devote some time to learning some extra skills so that you become employable. No college will be able to teach what is required in an actual company or farm because companies or farms will not share anything like that because companies keep their secrets very aggressively. You can learn some skills so that you can show your intent. The rest of the things you will learn on the job. The companies also know that.
Therefore, your college years should be very productive. The decisions you make in those years will shape your future in the coming years. It should not be such that everything had been spent for nothing.
