B. Tech degree has become very much competitive. Apart from the subjects taught in the course, you are expected to learn on your own some software related to Mechanical engineering. These will help you to be better mechanical engineering in the future. Your resume will have an edge over others. Now a day, the world is shifting towards design, simulation, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, etc. These are new concepts. We have to embrace them for our survival as a mechanical engineer.
1. Microsoft word /Microsoft excel Learning how to operate Microsoft word /Microsoft excel inefficient manner is very important. Many of us know to some extent but we lack skills to write properly that looks good in Microsoft word. For that matter, we can buy some books related to MS word or we can watch YouTube videos related to editing. MS Excel is required for data analysis, drawing graphs, etc. We can perform many useful things with MS word. As a teacher, I have seen students with very low skills with these two tools. We can learn ourselves from various videos or reading materials available online.
2. CAD software:
CAD software helps us to draw 3 D models. Suppose,
you are designing various parts of an engine and you are assembling them. Now a
day there are lots of 3D CAD tools; Auto cad, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, CATIA,
etc. Generally, auto cad is taught in engineering colleges. But, you have to
put effort to learn it well.
3. Finite Element Analysis software: FEA is
important for structural analysis. Ansys is such software widely used by
students and professionals alike. There are very small numbers of experts in
this field. If any can excel in the field, there are hundreds of jobs open for
him. Moreover, it will be very helpful during higher studies.
4. MATLAB: MATLAB is a programming language that helps in complex numerical analysis. One can do simulation here easily and show results. Moreover, no other software can match the plotting quality of MATLAB. Mechanical engineers use MATLAB for numerical modeling. This is a very vast subject. People with MATLAB skills are highly regarded in the research field.
